While the graphics are quite acceptable, the resolution is pretty low and we've all seen the Saturn do better.Įven with the load times, lack of option save and sub-par resolution, this game is a solid port with all of the goodies from the arcade version. Another reason Midway should have made use of the RAM expansion would be to bump up the resolution.

Unfortunately, this game doesn't utilize those. I feel like Midway could have avoided this by allowing this game to make use of the 1MB or 4MB RAM expansion carts for the Saturn. The worst part is when you're going to do a fatality, the game has to pause and load right in the middle of it! It really affects the flow of the fatality and I've had guests over who thought the game froze and was in error. They are fairly frequent, long and somewhat annoying.

ULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT 3 SEGA SATURN UPDATE
It is an update of 1995s earlier Mortal Kombat 3 (MK3) with an altered gameplay system, additional characters and stages, and some new features. That aside, the main issue is the load times. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (UMK3) is a fighting game in the Mortal Kombat series, originally developed and released by Midway Games to arcades in 1995. Its not a huge issue, but is just a minor annoyance causing you to make your selections over and over again each time you reboot the console. 9 of 10 fighting games on the Saturn allow you to save your scores and menu settings, but this feature appears to be absent from this port. Firstly, there doesn't appear to be a way to save your menu settings. With all of the greatness that is this port there are some shortcomings, leading to my one star deduction. UMK3 on the Saturn delivers fast paced, arcade quality action with every move and finisher you'd expect. More fighters, more secrets, more stages, more finishing moves, it really has it all! Raiden is missing from this one, but it is related to the story line, as Raiden was not in the original MK3 either. In my opinion, this game is what Mortal Kombat 3 should have been. Not to mention the 16-bit consoles don't have the graphic horsepower to deliver like the Saturn does. Although Ultimate MK3 was ported to the Super Nintendo and the Genesis, they are very different games and are actually watered down versions of MK Trilogy, rather than a faithful port of this title.

I wasn't disappointed! Ultimate MK3 on the Saturn delivers in virtually all aspects, and is a great home port true to the original. One of the reasons I picked up a Sega Saturn, was to get an arcade true port of Ultimate MK3. A virtually perfect arcade port of this classic with some bad load times
